Covid-19 & Just Food: Our Actions & Response

We are committed to your health and safety.


Dear Just Food Volunteers, Clients and Supporters, 

I am reaching out on behalf of the Just Food team and Board of Directors to assure you that in times of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 (coronavirus) that your safety and well-being remain our highest priority. We want you to know that we are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely, keeping those who are affected in our hearts, and are listening carefully to the questions and concerns we receive from our clients and volunteers and the impact that it may have on our service. Just Food is working alongside Harvesters, the community food network, to implement contingency planning for the spread of COVID-19 in addition to guidelines from the local health department and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.   


I would like to share with you some of the measures we will be putting into place effective immediately, which include implementing additional food safety measures along with additional sanitization steps in all food collections and distributions.

We ask Just Food volunteers and clients to take these prevention steps including the following:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.

  • If clients, volunteers, or staff come in sick, we will ask you to leave for your own safety and that of others. 

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue and use sanitizers to keep every area germ-free.

  • Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Wash all of your produce when you get home from Just Food before consuming. 

For our clients: 

  • Effective March 17th, you can now opt into a twice a month pick up schedule to get two weeks of points every other week in order to reduce visits. If you opt into this schedule, you will only be able to come every other week until you opt-out of the schedule or the program ends. 

  • You can now call in and assign a proxy to pick up for your account. Please ensure all proxy’s have proof of identity for pick up. Please dial 785-856-7030 to assign your proxy.

We will continue to monitor this situation and send updates from local, state, and national authorities. We are committed to lessening exposure to, and transmission of, infectious disease within Just Food and ask for your help in continuing to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of everyone.
