Volunteer of the Month: Mike Butell

Mike Butell started volunteering with us in May 2021 as a means to stay busy and active while he transitioned from full-time accountant into full-time retired life. After just a few months Mike became a mainstay as part of the Friday team, and thanks in part to his attention to detail, he moved from the warehouse into the check-in role in a matter of a few months. Mike is able to quickly and efficiently get shoppers checked in on Friday afternoons where we often see a spike of 100 shoppers per hour in the last couple of hours of the week, and because he started in the warehouse and pantry, he is well-equipped to answer shoppers' questions. All this, while he takes care of his aging mother full-time; Mike truly exemplifies having a spirit of service.

" While I have always done some volunteering in my adult life, the more recent did come about from transitioning from work to retirement to keep myself active and busy with new adventures and challenges, and to give back to organizations and others utilizing my skills and talents that have blessed me throughout my lifetime, I am so impressed by all the wonderful volunteers and staff of Just Food who give so much of themselves, and enjoy very much getting to know and work alongside them while we help to ease hunger in our community." - Mike Butell
