Seasonal Garden Coordinator
Position Summary
The Garden Coordinator is a seasonal, part-time position responsible for managing Just Food’s garden program from March through October. This role oversees both food production for pantry distribution and the coordination of small raised garden plots available for community rental. The coordinator will also develop and facilitate educational opportunities that empower community members to grow their own food.
This position is ideal for someone who is hands-on, organized, and passionate about food access, education, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
Garden Management & Food Production

Develop and implement seasonal planting plans to maximize yield and crop diversity for pantry distribution.

Prepare beds, plant, maintain irrigation, monitor soil health, and manage pests using sustainable practices.

Harvest, wash, weigh, and coordinate produce distribution with pantry staff.

Maintain tools, garden infrastructure, and overall site organization.
Raised Garden Plot Program

Coordinate rental of small raised garden plots to community members.

Manage plot registration, agreements, and communication with gardeners.

Provide orientation, guidelines, and ongoing support to ensure successful growing seasons.

Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that builds community among plot renters.
Education & Community Engagement

Develop and lead educational workshops on topics such as beginner gardening, seasonal planting, soil health, and harvesting.

Support hands-on learning opportunities for volunteers, pantry shoppers, and community groups.

Collaborate with staff to highlight garden impact through storytelling and outreach efforts.
Volunteer Coordination

Recruit, schedule, and supervise garden volunteers and group service projects.

Provide training and clear direction to volunteers of varying experience levels.
Data & Reporting

Track harvest yields, plot participation, workshop attendance, and volunteer hours.

Provide mid-season updates and an end-of-season summary with recommendations for growth and improvement.
Qualifications
-
Experience in vegetable gardening, urban agriculture, or sustainable farming.

Knowledge of seasonal crop planning and organic growing methods.

Experience facilitating workshops or educational programming preferred.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and manage seasonal priorities.

Ability to lift 40 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Commitment to food justice and equitable access to fresh food.
Schedule & Compensation

Part-time, approximately 15–20 hours per week

Seasonal position: March through October.

Compensation: $17 per hour
